Music That Moves You
Loreen Johnson-Sadler | MAR 4
One powerful way to empower yourself is through music.
Music has existed for centuries across cultures and traditions. It’s used for celebration, worship, storytelling, study, relaxation, and healing. There truly is music for everyone.
Have you ever noticed how something shifts inside you when a certain song plays? Sometimes it’s subtle. A melody can lift your mood, calm your nervous system, help you focus, or bring back a memory — pleasant or painful.
Music is deeply woven into our daily lives. We hear it while shopping, driving, waiting, exercising, and even while watching films where it moves the storyline forward. It isn’t just background sound. Music is designed to evoke emotion — and that can be used intentionally.
Research shows music may:
• Reduce stress (by lowering cortisol)
• Boost mood chemicals like dopamine and serotonin
• Support healthy blood pressure
• Strengthen cognitive function and memory
• Enhance workout performance and recovery
(Always consult a healthcare professional for medical guidance.)
Throughout my life — from my years as a dancer to now — I’ve used music with intention. Classical music for studying and choreography. Nature sounds before bed. Mantras and affirmations for grounding. Uplifting songs for encouragement.
Music can become a doorway to balance, healing, and self-discovery — when you choose it consciously.
While getting ready in the morning, softly play a song that inspires or strengthens you. Let it set the tone for your day.
Pause. Notice. Feel.
Wishing you peace and love,
YogaReenie
