Why Moving Your Body After 40 is More Important Than Ever
Loreen Johnson-Sadler | APR 7
After 40, our bodies start changing in ways that require more intention.
Our muscles naturally decline and begin to lose muscle mass. Less muscle means low metabolism, less strength for daily tasks, higher risks for falls and injuries.
Our metabolism shifts due to hormonal changes and lifestyle patterns. Joints stiffen and mobility changes because connective tissue loses elasticity. The joints get less lubrication, posture can decline and balance becomes critical.
Now some or all of these things mentioned you have probably already heard or read somewhere. It is a truth that cannot be avoided. Your body is changing and that is normal.
But here is the empowering part!
The changes that happen as we age to over 40 are not fixed and are responsive to movement!
There are a variety of activities that can be done to slow, adjust and meet these natural occurrences and have fun while doing so.
It is an Investment in your future self.
*You do not need to overhaul your life to see results, just choose movement you enjoy. It should feel supportive and not overwhelming.
A balanced routine may consist of:
Strength Training a few times a week
Gentle Stretching or Yoga
Walking or light Cardio
Simple balance exercises like standing on one leg
KEEP IT SIMPLE. KEEP IT CONSISTENT. MIX IT UP!
